YOUTH WORK IN A CHANGING WORLD

A partnership project with the National Youth Agency involving 16 countries and exploring youth work policy across Europe (February 9th - 13th, 2020)

About this event…

The seminar took place in Leicester and London, UK, from 9th to 13th February 2020. Momentum World worked in partnership with the UK National Youth Agency (NYA) to organise this project. The event is supported by the EU Erasmus Plus programme.

The UK Parliament All Party Parliamentary Group on Youth Affairs (APPG) has recently published a highly significant report on the future of youth work. At the same time, the government has announced the development of a “Youth Charter” to support young people “over the next generation and beyond”. At a time when youth services have been severely cut and when youth workers are under unprecedented pressure, it is encouraging to know that there are new initiatives which could re-establish the importance of youth work as a form of non-formal education, instead of just a crisis response to social and security issues. There is widespread political support for new policy and funding ideas for the youth sector.

This seminar had three main aims:

AIM 1:

To present the results of the parliamentary report and to share ideas on policy and practice (and how they are connected) from many different countries.

Aim 2:

To prepare an outline plan for a KA3 structured dialogue project for the April 2020 Erasmus+ deadline.

Aim 3:

To intensify youth sector links between the UK and other European countries at this time of political instability and uncertainty.

Meet the media team

As well as the running the conference we thought it would be interesting to have some young people running a media task force. So we set them a BIG challenge and that was to report on the week and present a fully functioning website with rich media content by the end of it. This is the end result and below is the media team who did it. Bearing in mind a day and a half was lost to the group due to late arrivals caused by storm disruption, we’re sure you will agree what they’ve produced is pretty amazing.
