YOUTH LIFESTYLES

A strategic partnership project co-funded by the EU Erasmus+ Programme (2019 - 2020)

THE AIMS OF THIS PROJECT

To reflect and better understand the social and pedagogical value of non-formal education in relation to the implementation of policies (educational strategies) and the use of public resources to tackle the phenomenon of youth deviance.

To collect and share experience in specific areas of prevention so that youth organizations across Europe can make their educational and social interventions more effective, thereby improving the quality of life of young people and the communities in which they live.

Project Partners

THE PROJECT story…

Each of these organisations works in very different contexts, but they share a commitment to the prevention of deviance and negative lifestyles which are harmful not only to the health of young people but also to social relations in general. The project highlighted the wide range of “lifestyle problems” affecting young people in Europe, and explored some of the solutions which are possible through direct or indirect actions, with an emphasis on non-formal education.

The main topics explored during the project were:

– Road safety / dangerous driving
– Bullying (including cyber-bullying)
– Addiction (including gambling and gaming)
– Teenage pregnancy and sex education
– Mental health issues (including eating disorders)
– Educational exclusion

Project activities were organised in 5 phases:

– Kick-off meeting (Kosice, Slovakia), November 2018
– Study visit (Almere, Netherlands), February 2019
– Training course (Stara Lubovna, Slovakia), May 2019
– Seminar (Luton, UK), September 2019
– Conference and multiplier event (Timisoara, Romania), December 2019
(A 6th phase (final meeting) was due to take place in Potenza, Italy in March 2020 but had to be organised online due to the Covid pandemic).

The Handbook

A Handbook for youth workers and non-formal educators was produced as part of the project, and can be downloaded here
